The phrase “you create your own reality” is one that many in the so-called “New Age” fraternity seem to express these days. What does it mean? And surely it doesn’t apply to unpleasant stuff like ill-health?
I first came across ‘you create your own reality’ when reading The Seth Material, a book from the literary legacy of the same name currently housed in the Manuscripts and Archives of Sterling Memorial Library at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. This vast body of knowledge, largely dictated by Seth (a personality “outside” of this physical dimension) through Jane Roberts (a ‘channeling’ medium), essentially informs us of the actual nature and construction of what we regard to be “real.” There are over 40 volumes either dictated by Seth, authored by Jane Roberts herself, or authored by Robert Butts (Jane’s husband), and others, that relate to this material. It is a body of work that is slowly being recognized as an essential precursor to understanding, not only the nature of one’s Self and how one operates in the physical world and beyond, but also the change in structure currently being experienced by Humankind’s collective consciousness – what has been hailed as “the shift in consciousness.”
Heavy, heady stuff you might think! Well yes, however there is much in The Seth Material to be enjoyed by the layperson or even the diehard skeptic, and it contains a vast amount of profound and fascinating information pertaining to the creation of illness and dis-ease from the point of view of a personality with literally a much broader perspective.
My study of The Seth Material, begun over 30 years ago, led me to investigate many learned works from the philosophical, religious and scientific disciplines. It was though the descriptions of the psyche and the mind (two different things according to Seth) explored in The Seth Material that so fascinated me I was moved to investigate what contemporary psychology had to offer on the subjects.
I thus spent four years in formal academic study.
Ironically, the discipline of Psychology then (the mid 1990s) did not seem to be too concerned with studying the psyche (or mind for that matter). This is probably because many in the field still insist that the mind, together with the phenomenon of consciousness, is merely an epiphenomenon of the functioning brain. That is, the mind and consciousness are but interesting by-products of a bio-mechanistic process. Psychology, alas for the main part, maintains the classical scientific contention, that the physical universe, that which we perceive through our five senses (and instrumentation), is the only reality worthy of study. Nothing outside of these parameters can be regarded as “real.” The mind and the phenomenon of consciousness, because they are beyond our physical and even technologically enhanced senses, cannot as yet be real – and are thus unworthy of investigation.
This intuitively sad state of affairs returned me to study other “alternative” sources of information on the nature of personal reality. Sources such as the Elias Transcripts, the Abraham-Hicks archives, Omni through John L Payne, Bashar through Darryl Anka and several other channeled transcripts have confirmed and expanded upon the already comprehensive guide to our personal cosmologies offered by the Seth Material. In fairness to the scientific fraternity, particularly those exploring Quantum Physics, Cellular Biology and Energy Psychology, there appears to be a convergence appearing among findings in these fields and the revelations disclosed in the metaphysical literature.
I now know intuitively and intellectually what the statement “you create your own reality” means. Furthermore, I hold it to be a Truth – a primary facet of knowledge quintessential to understanding the phenomena of our physical world and how it all comes into being.
Well bully for you, you might say, but how exactly do we create our own reality?
Essentially, the manifestation of the physical is brought about through the manipulation of energy within the patterning elements of your thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and emotions. These elements contribute to the “vibrational frequency” of your “perception.”
Your perception is how you view yourself, how you view your world, how you interact with your world, how you interact with yourself, with each other, and HOW YOU CREATE YOUR REALITY. You create your reality through your perception. Perception is not visual seeing. Perception is not limited to your thought process. It is not limited to emotion. It is all encompassing, and that element of yourself that you do not identify as a thing, for it is not your body and it is not your brain. It is that element of yourself that creates your reality, that places you in the awareness of reality within this physical dimension. (Elias, [Mary Ennis], session 381, April 9, 1999.)
There is a myriad of “probable realities” available to you in each nanosecond. Your individualized perception attracts (through the “Law of Attraction”) to you the probable reality that conforms to your perception’s own particular vibrational frequency. The primary modulators of this frequency are the beliefs you hold (produced by the thoughts you habitually think and the energy you accrue to them) and the energy that is generated by emotions that follow your pattern of thoughts.
The energy you give off based on your beliefs – your emotions, your behaviour – the vibrational frequency you give off is what determines the kind of reality experience you have. Because physical reality doesn’t exist except as a reflection of what you most strongly believe is true for you. That is all physical reality is – it is literally like a mirror. (Bashar, [Darryl Anka])
You have to remember that creation is not about you going out and getting something because everything’s about (the) Law of Attraction. Creation is about me creating within me the vibrational environment that will allow what I want to flow to me. Creation is about molding energy.
Creation is about bringing the vibration of my belief into (alignment with) the vibration of my desire, but it does not mean that I have to take every belief that I’ve ever believed and bring (them) into vibrational harmony with every desire that I’ve ever desired. It means the desire that I hold right now (that I wish to manifest) must not be contradicted by some belief. (Abraham [Esther Hicks], Sacramento, CA. May 13, 2000.)
According to the character Seth, your highly personalized state of perception, or vibrational frequency, embodies a sense of expectation:
Again, expectations are not only vital in the formation of physical constructions, but they also determine what inner data of all available, will be received by the individual; and then the individual interprets the data in terms of the same expectations.
The core of individuality, then, is the individual’s expectations, for he will truly get what he wants, individually and collectively.
If a man wants to change his fate, desire is not enough, but expectation is. Desire may grow into expectation, but alone it is not enough. Expectation is actually the main trigger that switches inner data into the realm of physical construction. Without it, no physical construction results.
This is extremely valuable information, particularly concerning the part played by expectation in the sifting of available data. Expectations is somewhat influenced also by past existences, and yet not enough to be binding upon the present personality.
An expectation of danger will indeed create danger. An expectation of success will create success. This is put very simply and yet there is nothing, in practical terms, more valid, since expectation has behind it the motivating force of the personality, and utilizes on a subconscious level strong abilities and comprehensions.
Expectation is the force, then, that triggers psychic realities into physical constructions. (Seth, [Jane Roberts], The Early Sessions, Book 2, Session 76, p.276.)
So this is how you create your own reality – healthy, or otherwise; and yes, this includes the unpleasant reality of ill-health. Whether your ill-health is of a psychological, emotional, or physical reality, it exists first within your mind, within the thoughts you entertain, and your collection of beliefs. Changing your beliefs, those that give rise to an unpleasant reality, by dissipating the energy you apportion to them, is a prerequisite of reclaiming your natural state of well-being.
